I served in the Army National Guard between the years of 1970 through 1976. The unit that I served with was the 146th Evacuation Combat Support Hospital. I was initially stationed at the National Guard Armory located in San Francisco, and was later transferred to Fort Funston. I completed my Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Ord in 1970. I was assigned to a Transportation Company and one of my duties was to operate military buses for the purpose of transporting troops to the air strip for their tour in Vietnam. I also transported the trainees to the firing range and other training exercises in cattle trucks. During my years of summer camps, I drove buses transporting troops to Letterman General Hospital in the Presidio of San Francisco and to Madigan General Hospital when I was assigned to Fort Lewis.
I wish to mention my late father, Jan H. Lee, who served during World War II in the Pacific and was a dedicated member of Cathay Post No. 384 upon completion of his military service. Today, I am proud to be able to followin his footsteps and continue his legacy as a proud member and the Commander of Cathay Post No. 384. As Commander, I will continue the programs that our late Commander Bok Pon had started. Including programs such as the War on Hepatitis B, scholarships for our veterans, college students and high school seniors along with many other programs to serve our community.
I wish to thank the members of Cathay Post No. 384 and our friends for their continued support to keep our post strong and active in California. I look forward to the opening of our new field office at the War Memorial Veterans Building at 401 Van Ness Avenue. Over the past year, our membership has grown and I hope to keep that trend for 2011. I welcome and invite all Veterans to join our post and be part of our team to provide services to those veterans who are in need and to our community.
